January 1 – 6, 2012 ~ Tarot of the Cat People

Tarot of the Cat People
Karen Kuykendall
(c) US Games, 1985

I have a lovely old copy of this deck that I received as a gift from a member at Aeclectic Tarot who no longer cared for the deck.  I find it utterly fascinating.

The card stock is the good old fashioned US Games card stock.  The cards are firm and laminated, but not overly so.   The size is, as usual, just large enough to make it difficult for me to shuffle easily.  Such is the lot of those with smaller hands, I guess.

The cards depict what seems to be four different races of people. Nearly every card has either a cat (or several cats) or a depiction of a cat. The artwork is ornate and very well done.  The colors are consistent through each of the suits - each having a specific theme.  What I like about this deck is that looking to the cat will often put the finishing touches on the interpretation.

As a reading deck I have always found it to be expressive and direct.  I have done several readings for others with this deck, but this week is the first time I have used it for personal readings.  I really would like to find the companion books, though.  I understand they are written like novels more than like tarot companion books.
