May 21 - 27 ~ Shadowscapes

Shadowscapes
Stephanie Pui-Mun Law
Llewellyn, 2011 (Deck Only Version)

EDIT:  Gifted to a good home, 2011

I pre-ordered the deck only version of this and then forgot about it.  I received an email from Amazon that it had shipped.  This lapse was prophetic, I think.

The deck came in a nice box - the kind that opens length wise.  The card stock is typical - not too laminated, but still protected with some sort of chemical brew.  The colors were soft and beautiful.  In fact, I cannot say enough good things about the beauty of this deck.  The colors, the images, the animals, the interplay between parts of the images and their backgrounds, etc.  She is a very good artist.  The cards are like 78 pieces of art.

However, I couldn't read with it.  Not at all.  I tried.  Readings were forced.  I couldn't wait for the week to end.  I liked looking at the cards I drew, but they didn't say anything to me.  I have heard that the books tell the story of each card, but I wonder if the story is so personal to the artist that I just can't see it without the artists help?  But then, I know that is not true as others have no problems reading with it without reading the books.   So, it must just be me.   And that is okay.  I am not going to "click" with every deck.   Even one with a Happy Squirrel card!!

I passed it along to somebody who seemed to want it very much.  I have received so many little gifts from various people on Aeclectic Tarot, that it just seemed that this deck needed to move on as a gift rather than as a trade.  For some reason, it just DEMANDED it.  And I am glad I listened as the new custodian of this deck really likes it.  I am happy that it brings this person joy and it drives home the point that just because I don't like something, it doesn't need to languish in my collection.  It needs to move up and out to spread whatever magic that it can.

Rating: Lovely deck, but sent on to another.
