December 03 - December 09, 2011 ~ Navigators of the Mystic SEA

I bought this because I thought it would be an interesting deck.  And yes, it is interesting.

The cards are a bit too small considering the amount of information contained on the cards.  There were a few times where I used a magnifying glass to see what was going on.  The colors are very bright and basic and follow the basic colors of the Tree of Life.  This colored Tree of Life is on the back of every card, so a handy reference. There is no shading of primary images - they are the symbolic color and that is it.

I did not get the book that goes with this deck and from what I have read, I am missing out on the author's explanation of the occult symbolism.   For the most part, the meanings could be discerned from the images without needing to know the symbolism.  The LWB has meanings that seem to be sufficiently different from say, the Thoth deck, that it isn't useful without the book and the background.

I don't know if it was because of the bad week I was having, or if it was the somber colors of every card I drew, but it was a less than enjoyable week of reading.  I dreaded doing draws because the cards were just so much work!  Does this mean the deck has no value for me? Not really.  It is still a decent deck.  I was just not in the mood.

ETA:  Thank you for the comments about the book.  I will keep my eyes open for it.  I honestly believe that this was just a bad week for this particular deck.  I don't hate it - but I got tired of the somber messages.  I think this would be an awesome deck for reading for others.

I just wanted to say, I have personally find the book you can get separately VERY helpful to consult when reading with this deck. It was quite quite cheap when i got it (I think like $3 + shipping on ebay) dunno if that's still the case but I'd say if you can find a copy, its worth it.

  2. I agree, the book is very helpful. I stumbled across a second hand copy in a bookshop in London and promptly bought it. I quite like the surreal, dream-like feeling of this deck.
